When you work in East LA, you have very limited food to chose from, I am lucky that Sam's Grill is close to my work. If you love Mediterranean food and amazing service. This is the place for you. I want to take special shout out to the mother/daughter duo (Amilia and Sonya), who always take good care of me.

I normally will get the Chicken Shawarma Salad or the Rotisserie Chicken Salad. They are both excellent.  Their food are appetizing, fresh, delicious, flavorsome and juicy. The price is ranging from $7.00-$10.00. They don't deliver, but you can call in your order and it is ready when you arrive. They are very customer friendly. I might be a little addicted to this place since  I come at least once a week.  Try it. You won't regret it

This the worst Middle Eastern restaurant ever that I went in my life.
Tables are dirty. Careless customer service. Poor quality foods and high prices.
I ordered the shawarma plate and the smell was disgusting. I didn't eat it. I just grabbed some salad from plate and dropped everything in trash. The owner of this business must go for some Middle Eastern restaurant tour around Los Angeles to see and learn about this food.
I feel sorry for the people that they come to this place. It's a big shame to see some business owners that they only think about to make a profit out of poor quality stuff.

I used to love this place... but service and quality has gone down.

Last time I ordered Chicken Schwarma and they delivered chicken kabob.  Yes I  got a refund- but not happy. Chicken was dry.

Today I ordered Chicken Schwarma and got...chunks of chicken. SMH. So disappointed.

    And it's super dry.

Love this place. Usually I get the chicken kebab plate it comes with chicken kebab, rice, hummus, salad, and grilled tomatoe+jalapeño. Oh and pita bread. So good! The lady and guy who work here are always super friendly and welcoming. I've been getting the salads lately and I love them. Which says a lot being that I'm not really a salad person haha. There's a decent sized parking lot so no need to worry about parking.

I made two visits prior to making an actual review. But if you want a short blurb: Good Mediterranean food with great portions and great pricing, coupled with general good customer service. Great lunch option for workers nearby.

    [FIRST VISIT -- DAY 1]

I've been in the area for a long while, and I never figured out why I've never tried Sam's. I didn't even know they served Mediterranean food, which I've been really loving as of late. So I decided to end the curiosity once and for all.

I got there at around 2:15 pm, and the lunch rush hour crowd was gone. I walked right up to the cashier and a very friendly lady took my order after I took a quick glance at the colorful menu boards above the window. Nice use of big fonts and color pictures. It really helped and was more effective than I'd imagined.

I decided on Chicken Shawarma Wrap. I figured anything in a wrap should be safe. And I wasn't wrong... blown away even. But before I got to the actual food review, just wanna comment on the wait time--short! This place was very timely in terms of food delivery. I got my order within what felt like, maybe 5 minutes, 10 minutes top. (I'd had a positive experience with nearby LA Skewers, taste wise, but the wait time was pretty horrible there. After one visit with Sam's, I don't think I'd go back to LA Skewers anymore. Time is money!!!)

The actual wrap was bursting with flavor, especially when I dipped it in the complimentary yogurt dip (tzatziki, I believe?). The wrap itself was already flavored in many ways. The chicken was spiced, marinated, and grilled just right. It wasn't too dry or burnt, giving this wrap a very strong protein base. The supporting roles (the vegetables) were flavored in a sour dressing, which was a signature contrast that I liked about Mediterranean cuisine. Along with the dip, it was the perfect combo.

All that delectable fun for about $7. Decent buy.

Basing on this visit alone, I raved about this restaurant to my curious coworker, who now is set to try out Sam's as well.

    [SUBSEQUENT VISIT -- DAY 2]

Day 2 wasn't as impressive as my initial visit, unfortunately.

First, I arrived at 1:00 pm instead, and I was in the middle of the lunch rush crowd. Not the restaurant's fault at all, but that did catch me by surprise, with me being naively hopeful that I wouldn't have to wait. Nevertheless, I was able to walk out with my order within 15 minutes, more or less, so I was still satisfied with the kitchen's swiftness... though there was a HUGE hiccup.

You see, I got the Chicken Lula Nabob Plate Combo, with a side of a single Falafel. (Can you believe that I never had a falafel before in my life? I ordered one just to see what the fuss is all about.)

Well, 2 things went wrong. First, they told me they were gonna put the falafel inside my combo box. Did they? Nope. Busy hours made them forget, and had I not have the habit of checking my order before departing, I would potentially have to walk back under the hot sun, which was no fun. So, first frowny face. :(

2nd frowny face :( awarded to forgetting to give me the wonderful yogurt dip that I loved so much from my first visit. They gave me ketchup and hot sauce, but where's my favorite white sauce?! (I need to learn to always ask for it!) My combo plate did include a hummus dip, but trust me, hummus was no match for tzatziki, by a long shot. As such, my first experience with falafel would most likely to be my last, as it tasted like a very dry, uninspiring potato ball that's made out of beans. Why do people enjoy this so much?

The lula combo plate, however, hit it out of the park. The portions were huge, the pricing was unbeatable. All that food for roughly $10? You got yourself a returning customer, Sam! The lula plate consisted of a carb base (either rice or fries), the lula, side salad, grilled vegetables, hummus dip, AND pita bread. Honestly, who could finish all that during lunch hour?

Fries were warm, fresh, and coated with just the right amount of seasoned salt. Chicken lula was pretty much what I expected, though it could've been slightly less dry, if I was to be picky. A quick dip into the hummus didn't hurt! The hummus itself was only adequate, and could benefit from more garlicky taste, something that I actually prefer from LA Skewers. The grilled tomato and jalapeno were both perfectly done, though I couldn't tolerate the spiciness of the pepper. It was good pepper, but it also made me cry and gave me a runny nose for the next 2 hours. WHEW! Side salad wasn't as tart as I would've hoped. It paled against the pleasantly sour vegetables in my chicken wrap, and now leaned towards the side of somewhat boring. Pita bread was fresh, but I had no more stomach space to actually consume them.

And that's how Sam's Grill narrowly missed its 5-star rating. 4.5 stars, maybe, though I still recommend this restaurant as one of the strongest options in this vicinity.
